£60,000 worth of wild flower seeds were scattered around the local area earlier this year, following the expansion of the Town Council wildflower planting programme. Mark Swinburn said "in my opinion, some areas look nice although the seeding appears patchy in others". He added "I am concerned over the methods used, with insecticides on the public grassed areas for preperation, then being left bare and unsightly for so long".
After spending the last two years working on improving these grass areas by increasing the number of cuts, the number of staff, and the associated costs, the council are now replacing them. Mark raised concerns to the council over their approach to the spending and methods used. THe controlling council group states that the plan was for this to continue.
Mark questioned whether or not even someone who loved wildflowers would be able to say that this was £60,000 of taxpayers' money well spent.
