February and the forthcoming half term holiday is always an exciting time in my book. Finally we lay to rest the excesses of the festive season and recover from those January blues and that back to school (and work) feeling. Suddenly we start to think that Spring may just about be on its way, and as beautiful as our county is all year round, no where in the country blossoms in Spring, like Northumberland. Of course for parents February also means a week to fill with activities to keep the kids entertained. No easy task. So whether it’s our dramatic coastline or two areas of outstanding natural beauty, our dark skies or our national park, our vibrant market towns, or our UNESCO world heritage site of Hadrian’s Wall or one of our many castles or stately homes, Northumberland has something for everyone, of all ages and in all weathers. Northumberland’s arts centres and cinemas offer an excellent choice and range of theatre and film, and the Active Northumberland leisure centres are planning a whole host of half term activities across the county, in addition to their normal timetables.
January 2019 saw the successful launch of Discover our Land, championing all that is great about Northumberland as a place to live, visit, work and invest and to date over 500 businesses and organisations have signed up to be ambassadors for the county and to tell their stories of what Northumberland means to them. You can read their stories and find out more at www.discoverourland.co.uk. This week also sees the launch of our photo competition and details can be found on the Discover our Land website. Photographs can be of anything as long as it champions all that is great about our county and is open to everyone, the professional and the amateur, the young and the not so young! Plus there are great prizes for the winners and the chance for top entries to be showcased around the county.
So if you’re out and about in Northumberland this week and in coming months, do send us your photographs, share your experiences and like our and each other’s posts. Discover Northumberland is on Facebook, discovernland on Instagram, @discovernland on Twitter.
Whatever you do this February, enjoy.
