In May 2017, the Conservatives were trusted by the people of Northumberland to run England’s most northerly county and have achieved a great deal since then. Council leader Peter Jackson says voters will in Northumberland can get the same results by backing Charlie Hoult as the North of Tyne Mayor
Why is it important to learn lessons?
Because with strong Conservative leadership from day one we have, in two years, turned Northumberland around. We have reduced the debt and now focus investment on transforming communities across the county. The message loud and clear is that Northumberland is open for business.
We have a refreshed economic strategy, with greater emphasis on development and regeneration, a new local plan that promotes sustainable growth, addresses housing need but at the same time protects the green belt and the unique characteristics of the county.
We have invested in education and skills, roads, and have agreed major investment in schools and leisure.
There is new car parking, and progress too on the Newcastle to Northumberland train line. We focus on creating more and better jobs, with a house building programme to match.
We have refocused the council on delivering results that make a real difference to people’s lives and that address the generations of Labour-led neglect.
Northumberland is a showcase for what Conservatives can do. Join me on May 2nd in backing Charlie Hoult, a Mayoral candidate for the North of Tyne who can deliver for the whole area in the way we have for Northumberland.
