Residents of Hexham express their delight as plans to redevelop one of Hexham’s most iconic buildings is given the green light.
The iconic Grade-II listed building is set to be redeveloped into a registry office and wedding venue with several holiday apartments.
The former Tynedale District Council building has not been in regular use since the District Council was abolished in 2009.
The announcement to redevelop the building comes after years of campaigning from local Hexham Conservative Councillors, who have been pushing the County Council to review their existing buildings and assets and to bring Council owned buildings such as Hexham House back into use.
Hexham Conservative Mayor Trevor Cessford said: “I am absolutely thrilled at the success of this campaign and the news that Hexham House is to be brought back into use. Weddings play an important role for the County’s economy and this is such an incredibly iconic building in our community. My Conservative colleagues and I were delighted to work with the County’s registrar to see Hexham House developed in this way.”
