Northumberland is a great place to live, work, visit and invest. That’s why today we launched Discover Our Land, a social movement that will demonstrate everything our county has to offer.
Northumberland Conservatives are incredibly proud of our county’s stunning natural beauty; the heritage built here over millennia; and the distinctive character of Northumbrian people and our communities. Discover Our Land ambassadors will strengthen the pride people feel in our county by sharing their own experiences of why they love it here. It will also use social media to encourage people from outside the county to invest and visit here.
Discover Our Land officially launched today at Close House, with business leaders and influencers present to take forward the message that Northumberland is a great place to visit, raise a family, build a career or to establish and grow a business. Blyth Tall Ships and Kielder Dark Sky Park feature prominently as unique attractions while numerous businesses demonstrate how this county can be used as a springboard to becoming a successful international enterprise. The scheme has also received the backing of government, with Culture Secretary Jeremy Wright endorsing the launch event.
A website, launched today, will bring together the content that will soon be shared on numerous media platforms both here in Northumberland and elsewhere in the world.
Councillor Cath Homer, Cabinet Member for Culture, Arts, Leisure and Tourism said:
“Our approach has focused on promoting Northumberland in a new way, of telling a strong and bold story about what we have to offer and what makes us unique. We’ve been on a journey of discovery ourselves, and we’ve unearthed some amazing and inspirational stories - of success, of ideas, of adventure, and of community - but most of all stories of pride.
“Everyone should have the opportunity to contribute and feel proud to be involved in the campaign, and we’ll be using social media to spread the word as told by those that know best, putting our people at the very heart of Discover our Land.”
