Morpeth's new leisure centre opened in April this year, with a library and adult education centre which is receiving glowing praise from visitors. All the while membership and user numbers are rising rapidly.
The project, funded by our Conservative led County Council, includes a new 8 lane swimming pool, learner pool, a significantly larger gym, studio space, sports hall and spa facilities. The library meanwhile is much larger than the old Manchester street site with the top floor housing all new adult education learning facilities.
Speaking about the £21m project Cllr David Bawn said, "I am so pleased that we have managed to deliver this project on time and budget. It is a massive boost to Morpeth at a time where other councils in places like Gateshead are forcing through leisure centre closures.
"As ever we are a town and a county bucking the trend. Already we have information that points to a truly massive increase in the number of people using the leisure centre and the library which is so good to hear. We want to see a more fit and healthy community for generations to come and now we have the facilities to achieve this.”
