Anne-Marie Trevelyan, MP for Berwick-upon-Tweed, has urged local residents to report areas where potholes repeatedly form, to their county councillor.

The MP, who encouraged the Government’s decision to provide additional funds for Northumberland County Council for pothole repair, has heard from the interim Chief Executive, Daljit Lally, how the Council will use the cash.

The Council is taking part in a pilot scheme of the ‘Local Pothole Fund’ which seeks to repair potholes which have re-appeared despite years of repairs. County Councillors on each of the five new area committees – representing each of the five areas of Northumberland – will determine how the funds are spent.

Mrs Trevelyan said: “It is vital residents get in touch with their county councillor to ensure the worst potholes in north Northumberland can be repaired permanently. Potholes may seem like a small issue, but they cause day-to-day annoyance and damage to vehicles, and make our roads difficult to access in some cases. If you live near potholes which have re-formed despite repairs over the years, make sure you feed that in to your county councillor so the location can be included in the new scheme.”

Ms Lally also reiterated to Mrs Trevelyan that the new Council administration is placing increased priority on improving the condition of the highway network.
