Hexham MP Guy Opperman has backed a takeover of Haydon Bridge High School by Academy sponsor Bright Tribe: 

 

"The process for schools judged to be failing under a local authority's control is very clear. If a school does not improve quickly then the Local Authority must either close the school or release it from their control to an Academy sponsor.

 

"Bright Tribe have been identified as a new sponsor to help us turn around Haydon Bridge and save it from closure. Bright Tribe is a multi-academy trust which was established to help raise the standards

in our schools. Bright Tribe already run the Whitehaven Academy in Cumbria and have expertise and success in improving schools.

 

"Academies were originally a Labour policy designed to improve struggling schools, but now there are many academies across the country providing a sustainable future for schools.

 

"I myself have visited some fantastic Academy schools across the North East and have always been impressed by the improvements a strong and determined Headteacher is able to make.

 

"I have met with the leaders of Bright Tribe and I have been genuinely impressed. I believe Bright Tribe gives Haydon Bridge High the best chance of a strong future."
