Hexham secures £2m as countywide regeneration continues apace
Over £2m of funding has been secured for a Heritage Action Zone for Hexham Town Centre following a government announcement this weekend. The action zone will breathe new life in to key streets in Hexham Town Centre helping to preserve the heritage of the town.
This is something that Conservative run County Council has been working on for some time in partnership with the Town Council and other local groups and represents a huge opportunity to ensure that Hexham remains a special place. This great news for Hexham follows an announcement that Blyth is to receive anything up to £25m from the Future Highstreet Fund established by the Government to help high streets evolve and reinvent themselves. Elsewhere in the South East of the County the council has been running consultation events for the return of passenger rail services to the “Northumberland Line” as we continue our rapid progress on the project. In the north of the county there was good news this last week also as the Ad Gefrin Whisky Distillery passed an important milestone receiving planning permission. The scheme has the potential to revitalise Wooler providing jobs and investment into the town.
Under the Conservatives Northumberland is making huge progress. At a time where many people are contemplating the prospect of a General Election the question all Northumberland should ask itself is, what more could we do with 4 Conservative MPs instead of just 2!
