8th March is International Women's Day. It is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
An International Women's Day Drop In-Event was held at County Hall where Councillor Wendy Pattison, Cabinet Member for Adults' Wellbeing said, "I particularly wanted to mention the contributions women make in the workplace, and International Women's Day is an opportunity to recognise this and to ensure all of our workplaces are more inclusive for women and to address all barriers towards their success and well-being."
Cllr Pattison went on to read a poem called 'Warning' by Jenny Joseph. Written in 1961, this poem is known and loved across the world for its message of old age and as a time for indulgence and fun.
Councillor Veronica Jones, who attended the event said, "There have been so many inspirational women from Northumberland and this event was a wonderful way to not only celebrate them but to show appreciation for the women who work here at Northumberland County Council."
