On Friday, Northumberland members welcomed The Rt Hon. Ann Widdecombe DSG to an event at The Northumberland Arms in Felton. It was a successful evening with many members, councillors and portfolio holders in attendance.
Ann spoke to members on a number of topics, in particular Brexit and the prolific and wasteful spending in the European Parliament as well as her time as a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing!
It was a sad day for her and for the Conservative Party following the sad loss of Sir David Amess, who was a close friend of hers.
Ann went on to visit both Durham and Stockton Conservatives the following day before returning home.
Cllr Veronica Jones, Deputy Chair Membership and Fundraising of Northumberland Conservatives said, "It was a pleasure to have Ann in Northumberland and brilliant to see so many members attend. This was our biggest event since early last year and it is great to see our events come alive again!"
Cllr Richard Wearmouth, Chairman of Northumberland Conservatives said, “It was great to have Ann Widdecombe visit us in Northumberland to talk and answer questions from members. From Strictly to the European Parliament her talk was very interesting. Personally, I’m still unsure whether to curse or thank those who persuaded her she should dance with me to prove that she still had the moves!”
