Hexham was given a boost this week as plans were approved for the “Bunker site” which has lain vacant for many years. The project includes a new supermarket and Travelodge hotel. The project will also provide a 250 space car park that will be owned by Northumberland County Council and provide additional long stay bays for the town.
Speaking about the project County Councillor for Hexham Central Trevor Cessford said “I'm really pleased that this site, which has been abandoned for so many years, is finally going to be redeveloped. This is a really important project for Hexham, creating jobs and additional hotel capacity for our town. Just as importantly it will deliver on a pledge we made to create additional parking space in the town.”
