Plans for the refurbishment of Seahouses public toilets have been welcomed by the local Conservative Councillor for Bamburgh, Guy Renner Thompson.
Speaking about the £131k project Guy said, “I am very pleased to confirm the full refurbishment of the public toilets in Seahouses. This is something I have been pushing for since my election and have had several meetings on site with council officials and senior councillors to discuss the condition of the toilets.
“The facilities are in need of significant improvement to bring them up to modern standards and to enable them to cope with the large increase in tourism in recent years. The planned works will significantly enhance the visual appearance, standard of cleanliness and user experience. We had hoped to have them ready for summer 2020, however with the current climate that will not be possible and instead the work will be done this winter, ready for Easter 2021.
“In 2017 the Council invested £20,000 to restore and re-open the Tourist Information Centre, which has been closed by the previous Labour council, and in 2019 the Council spent £300,000 extending and resurfacing the overflow car park and installing electric charging points. This new money for the toilets will bring the total investment into the Station Yard car park to a total of £450,000 in the last three years.”
